Sherri McCrary

Sherri Lynn McCrary, 62, of Rockford, Illinois, passed away peacefully on Monday, July 27, 2026, at home. Born on June 12, 1964, in Rockford, Illinois, Sherri was the beloved daughter of Charles Cordell and Anita Edwards.

Sherri graduated from West High School in Rockford, Illinois, in 1982. She worked for many years at CITGO on Rockton Avenue, where she made many lasting friendships and was known for her kind heart and welcoming personality.

Sherri found joy in the simple things in life. She loved doing crafts and putting together puzzles, spending time outdoors, and traveling whenever she had the chance. After moving to Texas at a young age, she embraced every adventure life had to offer. She especially loved motorcycle rides, visits to Six Flags, and making memories with those she loved most. Above all, Sherri cherished every moment spent with her family and friends.

Sherri is lovingly survived by her daughter, Nicole Brown (Derrick Brown); her son, James McCrary; and her three beloved granddaughters, Destiny Isbell Love (Anthony Rhodes), affectionately known as her “girly girl”; Kaelynn Isbell Love, who was proudly named after her and, as everyone lovingly joked, was Nana’s favorite; and Alivia Brown, her basketball star.

She is also survived by her brothers, Steve Isbell and David Isbell; her sister, Kim Cordell-Johnson; her nephew, Tyler Isbell; her longtime boyfriend, Jason Smeltzer; and her lifelong best friends, Heidi Snyder and Becky Berning, all of whom will forever cherish her memory.

Sherri was preceded in death by both of her parents, Charles Cordell and Anita Edwards; her brother, James Isbell; as well as her grandparents, aunts, and uncles.

The family would like to extend a heartfelt and very special thank you to her granddaughter, Kaelynn, whose unwavering love, compassion, and dedication never wavered. She remained by Nana’s side until the very end, providing comfort, care, and unconditional love during Sherri’s final days. Your selfless devotion and the love you showed your Nana will never be forgotten.

Sherri’s kindness, laughter, adventurous spirit, and love for her family will never be forgotten. She touched the lives of so many, and her memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
